Building Corporate Sponsor Relations

Corporate Sponsorships can often be the life blood of any large event, program, charity or movement you are planning. They can play huge role in your success or failure. It's important to keep in mind how to best steward and mine these connections.

Here are some tips:

1. Clear Vision- Take some time to ensure you can clearly and concisely articulate who you are or what your organization is. Develop a concrete vision and how it can benefit your community and the sponsors involved. What is one sentence that sums up your initiative? Memorize it...

2. Put It In Writing- Create a sponsor packet that lays out all of the benefits of being a corporate sponsor. Use good graphic design and concise wording. Provide different investment levels. Be sure to also paint the "BIG" picture and really sell the dream with words. ***Caution***: Do not overuse words. Utilize language that sends someone straight to the point you are trying to get across. For example, if you hosting a 3on3 basketball tournament(wink, wink) you want to let them know that the event will be a "City Wide" event attracting "thousands of individuals and their families". Use bullet points as a main attention grabber early in the document.

3. Assemble Your A-TEAM- Get 3 to 5 of your most articulate, motivated people and put them in a "war room". With them, develop a list of companies and organizations in your community that could possibly be interested in your sponsor opportunity. This list should have at least 50 names on it. Divide this list between your team and "attack".**Keep in mind time tables. Many times logos, websites and other branding needs come into play for the general marketing campaign. Be sure to harness sponsorship prior to your marketing season.***

4. Set Goals and Attack- With your team, set goals and deadlines. Before you get up from your first meeting determine what date you will have your high level sponsors secured. Do be sure to secure your large sponsors first and early as they are typically the ones that will underwrite the majority of your expenses and also take longer to get. Send your team out in attack mode.

5. Nurture- Once you secure sponsors, don't forget about them. This goes for all levels. Be sure to cater to their needs and clearly communicate action steps your team is taking to make sure they are getting the exposure you promised them. This is often the most hurtful problem sponsor teams face in repeat years. If relationships are nurtured, sponsors feel less inclined in the repeat investment when you come knocking for round 2.

The Comcast Downtown Slam 3on3 is partnering with Connect 3on3 Basketball and the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation this May!!! Connect 3 on 3 and Family Fun Zone is an event that is geared to provide great competition for those who are looking for a well-organized 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. While it is a day of basketball, it is also a day where families can come and enjoy a day of fun activities in the Family Fun Zone. So whether you are looking to play basketball or looking for something fun to do with your family...this event is for you. (For those playing basketball you must pre-register.)

For nearly a week, my co-work, Mark Lamb, trashed talked me about his ticket to see my favorite band U2. He would sing lyrics. He would whisper “Bono” in quiet and still moments.

Well…

I went to U2 360 Tour last night. Bryan Meadows met me in my sinful state and offered a free gift, floor ticket, at 3pm yesterday.

I woke up not going to the concert and by mid afternoon I was in a state of bliss and panic in my effort to get to the Dome.

We were 20 yards from the most state of the art stage in history.

Their message was bigger than their music. During one of three encores….

Bono started singing…

Amazing Grace by John Newton. By the time I recovered from my coma, I pulled my phone out and caught the end of the song, but what ensued was unreal. Visually, musically.

Here is a great photo from our event last May outside of Chicago in Naperville, IL. Connect 3on3 Basketball is not just a basketball tournament. It is a platform for intersection in the community. Our goal at Connect is to create a festive, yet competitive environment that will harbor unity. Many churches are hosting Connect 3on3 as a "pre-evangelistic" movement to help their membership expose the love of Christ to communities that are not oriented with His love or even His existence. Connect 3on3 is very much like the Well, a common place where a common activity(basketball and family fun) takes place. When embraced with passion and sincerity, it provides one of the best avenues of missional ministry in the church today.

**Common people loved by a very uncommon God coming in contact with common people who are unaware of an uncommon God.**

Have you seen this? At almost every Connect 3on3 Basketball event that we host, we have a $10,000 Hot Shot contest. It's pretty thrilling to witness. To be there, watching a handful of people from a local community compete to win a massive amount of change is heart pounding to say the least. Tour de France

You do not have to be an experienced road biker or even a mountain biker to get this post. If you haven't engaged "le Tour de France" you really should consider it. For 23 days every July, one of the most epic races in human history stretches itself across the countryside of France and even slips into northern Spain for a stage or two. This race has so much DEPTH. It's not just 200 amazing athletes fighting for themselves against the clock. It's much more. It's team sport with a team strategy. Even more, it is a sport full of selflessness and selfishness. Some riders exist to position other riders for victory. A select few riders are the true "contenders" who are selected by their teams to try and win the "Maillot Jaune", or Yellow Jersey. To read more about current race standings, check out Versus.com. Does your life ever feel like this?

The Pamplona bull run takes place at 8am every morning from 7th to 14th July. Runners must be in the running area by 7.30am. The actual run stretches from the corral at Santo Domingo where the bulls are kept, to the bullring where they will fight that same afternoon. The length of the run is 825 metres and the average time of the run from start to finish is about three minutes. The streets through the old town which make up the bull run are walled off so the bulls can't escape. Each day six fighting bulls run the route as well as two herds of bullocks.

The tension builds as the release of the bulls approaches and at 8am on the dot a rocket is fired to confirm that the gate has been opened at the Santo Domingo corral. Runners dressed in white with a red hankerchief around their necks pray to San Fermin then a second rocket announces that the bulls have left. The bulls and the runners then proceed along the route.

Office Move Part 1

Today began a four day journey to our new office and warehouse in Watkinsville, GA. On The Move movers showed up this morning to load up our warehouse(primarily basketball goals and shelving equipment). Tomorrow they load up our office and drive it down to Georgia. We move in on Saturday and hopefully open up on Monday without a hitch.

Hoops of Hope

If you haven't heard of Hoops of Hope, you're missing out. Read and watch the excerpt from hoopsofhope.org below. At least watch the videos, they explain it all.

"Hoops of Hope is the biggest basketball shoot-a-thon in the world, much like a walk-a-thon, but more fun! You can join thousands of participants and teams from around the world that shoot free throws for children in need. Every dollar raised will go directly to the project you select to help these children. Every free throw will literally help keep children from becoming orphans.

The United Nations estimates that every 14 seconds, somewhere in the world, another child is orphaned by HIV/AIDS. This means that each day over 6,000 children join the 15 million children worldwide who have already lost one or both parents to this disease.

In the spring of 2004, Austin Gutwein watched a video that showed children who had lost their parents to AIDS. After watching the video, he realized these kids weren’t any different from him except they were suffering. Austin felt God calling him to do something to help them. He decided to shoot free throws and on World AIDS Day, 2004, he shot 2,057 free throws to represent the 2,057 kids who would be orphaned during his day at school. Friends and family sponsored Austin and he was able to raise almost $3,000. That year, the money was used by World Vision to provide hope to 8 orphan children.

From that year forward, thousands of people have joined Austin in a basketball shoot-a-thon called Hoops of Hope. By doing something as simple as shooting free throws, Hoops of Hope participants have raised over $1 million. The children left behind by AIDS now have access to food, clothing, shelter, a new school and finally, a medical testing facility which he was told would save an entire generation. A second clinic is now under construction.

Austin believes anyone, no matter what their age or skills, can make a difference."

On April 19th, 2009 Connect 3on3 Basketball witnessed a record setting event thanks to the volunteers at Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels, TX. The event was a huge success hosting 118 teams, which is 37 more team than the previous Connect 3on3 record.
